Health and Safety Manager Aus. & NZ | Aurecon
Leading teams of safety professionals, it is humbling to hear that leaders are committed to growing their own team just as much as they are committed to improving workplace health and safety.
“In the safety world initiatives come and go, but leaving a legacy or creating a higher benchmark through increased understanding or ability is something that continues to grow and develop depth as time goes on.”
Having grown many safety teams, Julie’s fundamentals to achieve high performing teams are:
1. Ask questions and embrace the opportunity to learn more. Every day, continue to learn and develop. In this ever-changing environment of new ideas and fresh horizons you don’t have all the answers.
2. Identify the gaps, your team members and your own. Manage your own insecurities and be brave enough to show vulnerability.
3. Identify the value every person brings to the team and leverage this. Harness and promote strengths and have fun.
With a progressive approach to managing dynamic teams, Julie has been able to create space in the teams for diversity of thought, and the production of fresh ideas. Embracing difference, building trust and fostering psychological safety within the team has enabled the sharing of innovation and thought-provoking conversations as well as challenging of norms in a respectful way.
Julie’s leadership in developing reliable teams of confident safety professionals has enabled them to support the business and improve the culture, significantly contributing to improving workplace health and safety outcomes.
